One of the must-see highlights in Samaná is the Samaná Pier, this is one of the most emblematic places of Santa Bárbara de Samaná. Located in a stunning coastal village, along Avenida de la Marina, only minutes away from the Haitises National Park.
The scenic, two-kilometer (1.2 miles) long waterfront boulevard lining Samaná Bay wins over every photographer’s eye. Also known as the Malecón or Avenida de la Marina, this seaside promenade is the heart and pulse of Santa Bárbara de Samaná. Residents and visitors relax on shaded benches facing the bay waters–early mornings or at sunset–to take in views of anchored boats, ready to whisk visitors and anglers. At the same time, birds fly above the pedestrian Bridge to Nowhere in the near distance. The bridge dates back to the 1960s and offers a 1.3 kilometers (0.8 miles) hike above the water towards a couple of mangrove Cayes with small beaches. On the western edge of the boulevard, Pueblo Príncipe adds color with its row of colorful pastel-hued wooden houses where you’ll find shops, pharmacies, and souvenir shacks.
You can enjoy the Samaná Pier with many moored boats near the boardwalk and an area where there are different shops to buy souvenirs such as handicraft items so that visitors can take home a good memory. It also houses other restaurants to enjoy local cuisines, such as fish and different exotic fruits.
During the day and especially at sunset, it is a highly recommended place, a boardwalk where you can enjoy the best evening and the best views. It has different benches so that visitors can sit and admire the views, green areas, and gardens to enjoy. The site’s flora is also interesting since it is possible to see many palm trees and native flowers.
